Atlas Lions launch AFCON preparation

Hervé Renard and his squad has begun preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations, with most of the players already settled in.

The Moroccan national team officially launched their training camp on Monday June 3rd, at the National Football Center of Maamoura in Salé, just outside of the capital. This will serve as preparation for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, set to take place in Egypt between June 21st and July 19th, with Morocco playing their first game on June 23rd against Namibia.

Head coach, Hervé Renard, held a light training session in the evening with those already settled in, while more players are expected in the coming hours. The Dutch group consisting of Hakim Ziyech, Karim El Ahmadi, Noureddine Amrabat, Oussama Idrissi, Noussair Mazraoui and Mbark Boussoufa, went on a private plane Monday night and will be present in Tuesday’s evening session. The same applies for Nabil Dirar and Khalid Boutaïb, both late arrivals.

As for the goalkeepers, Ahmed Reda Tagnaouti and Abdelali Mhamdi will play league games with Wydad and RSB respectively on Tuesday night, before joining the rest of the squad. Munir Mohand on the other hand, still has commitments with Málaga and won’t take part with the Atlas Lions until June 9th. In total, 27 players are part of Renard’s preparations, whereas four will eventually be excluded from the final squad.
