The Morocco international could be looking at another experience abroad.
Abdelmounaim Boutouil has long been considered one of the most talented players coming out of Morocco, since he broke through at FAR Rabat and captained the country at youth level. The move to Saint-Gilloise in the Belgian second tier didn’t work out as planned, but he is now back in the Botola Pro and still a desired target on the transfer market.
Finding some consistency on loan at heavy-spenders Chabab Mohammedia this season, he could now be on the verge of another stint outside the Moroccan borders. Maghrib Foot understands that Mamelodi Sundowns have inquired about the 22-year-old through a Belgian-Moroccan agent. The South African champions are ready to put €750,000 (8m dirhams) on the table for Boutouil’s services, as they hope to strengthen in defense ahead of a new campaign. This is not the first time that the Brazilians are testing the waters in Morocco, having already placed a bid on Karim El Berkaoui last year.
Boutouil has quickly established himself as one of the most dominating centre-backs in the league this season and was given the captaincy at SCCM early on. He was then included in the Team of the Tournament as Morocco won the African Nations Championship earlier this year. His contract with Union SG is still running till 2023, but there are no indications that he has a future there.
