Atlas Lions could make their return to France this summer.
According to Maghrib Foot’s information, the Moroccan football federation have received an invitation to take part in the Festival International Espoirs – Tournoi Maurice Revello, better known as the Toulon Tournament. It’s regarded as one of the major competitions in international youth football and has seen players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Zinédine Zidane, Thierry Henry and David Beckham on the pitches in Southern France. Usually there’s been an age limit of 21 or 22 years of age.
FRMF have not yet made a choice as to whether or not they will accept the invitation. Their hesitation mostly stems from the late ending of this season’s Botola, which will coincide with the Toulon Tournament, scheduled for the beginning of June.
However, if they do decide to take part, it will be a great opportunity to watch the next stars of Moroccan football, facing some of the best youth players in the world. The Atlas Lions also have their own history from the tournament, finishing 3rd in 2015 after losing to France in the semi-final. Wydad midfielder Walid El Karti was awarded Player of the Tournament, while Zamalek attacker Achraf Bencharki ended with four goals and became top goalscorer.
