BREAKING: Regragui leaves FUS for Qatar

The longest sitting manager in the Moroccan top-flight leaves for a new experience abroad.

It was today, Wednesday morning, that FUS Rabat released an official statement, announcing the departure of Walid Regragui:

Fath Union Sport informs the public that coach Walid Regragui will join the Qatari club Al-Duhail Sports Club this week. This departure follows Mr. Regragui’s wish to work with the Qatari club following their request.

Regragui has received an offer from Qatari league leaders Al-Duhail SC, who are still unbeaten in the Qatar Stars League this season. This comes as a result of the sudden resignation of Portuguese tactician Rui Faria.

And thus have we come to the end of Regragui’s reign at FUS, after more than five years at the capital club. He won the Moroccan Throne Cup in his first season and won them their first ever league title two years later. The former Morocco international made Fath a forced to be reckoned with, while showing great skills in man-management and player logistics along the way.

The longevity of his spell was unrivalled in Morocco, where all the other clubs in Botola currently have coaches who has been in the job for less than a year. Among the players sold to foreign clubs during Regragui’s spell are Nayef Aguerd (Dijon), Badr Boulahroud (Málaga), Yusupha Njie (Boavista), Mohamed Fouzair (Al-Nassr) and Mourad Batna (Al-Wahda).
